I had a 16th century-style wedding party for my first wedding. The wedding attendants all chose their own clothes, with the restriction that they should be 16th c. European in style. We used the first English translation of the Christian wedding ceremony (dating to Elizabeth I's reign), we had pipers for the music, we had a Renaissance banquet for the food. We had the service in the church fellowship hall, instead of at the altar. Unfortunately, the groom never quite got the concept that it was his 20th century self marrying my 20th century self, instead of our SCA personae marrying each other. We stuck together for 15 years, because I'm stubborn.
Second time around, I got married in a lace and tulle white confection, with my groom in a morning-coat rented from the menswear shop. My bridesmaids all wore the same dress, selected by the youngest bridesmaid and the fattest bridesmaid. The groomsmen all matched the groom. I had a classic white cake and catered food from a restaurant. We had a traditional Episcopal service, in a church. See pix at http://www.housemorien.org/wedding.htm
I have no regrets about my "boring" second wedding or its attire.
