So postmodern!
Nov. 28th, 2007 12:52 pmNothing evokes Foucault quite like a ski-a-thon at the South Pole, which makes it a natural choice to raise money for the Foucault Society.
I got this idea from a post
mysticxf made...As an English major, I ought to support the writers' strike, since most of them were probably English majors. And after all, I teach writing and study the teaching of writing. So I should show support and solidarity by refusing to write any school papers until the writers' strike is settled, right? Huh? How many of you academics are with me?

To make up for my lame thesis entries -
Here's a web site where you can make your own Jackson Pollock-esque work of art. Just click to change colors and drag the mouse all over the screen.

Note 1: This probably only makes sense if you watch The Colbert Report.
Note 2: The first two are one entry.
Do you like to snark bad poetry? Then I suggest you check out Love: Poems by Danielle Steele. Search inside the book, hit the "Surprise me" button for pure hilarity. Too many good ones to list, though I am fond of:
"Razzle dazzle snow scene
my life so white so bare so vast
and then your open door
my heart whooshing toward your arms..."
or -
"Jam.
There must be jam,
you told me
firmly
with a half-hidden smile
of satisfaction
and a promise
I was yet
to understand..."
or maybe "The Year of the Bears". Yeah, that's a good one too. I think I will have to get my own copy of this, I wonder if the campus library has a one? Maybe I can write my thesis on this.

I was starting to feel sorry for myself 'cause no-one was commenting on my entries - and then
shipbrook said that my posts weren't showing up on his Friends list. ??? I think it has something to do with my recent "Friends Only" banner and having to backdate entries. If anyone has any experience with that sort of thing, let me know if there's something crucial I'm missing. Oh, and if you're really into my end of semester paper-writing whining, check out my journal.
Meanwhile...

Meanwhile...
I made this joke after we saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night, shipbrook made the comic. We make a good team.
On the one hand, I have become quite tolerant of fan fic. I've never written any, but I can see why it holds charms for some. Besides, yay for people writing! I think it was put into perspective when I read an argument that said that what Shakpespeare did (taking existing stock stories and making his own plays) could be considered a form of fan fic. In fact, I'm thinking about studying fan fic if I go on to get a comp/rhet PhD. I'm intrigued by the notion of slash, and I have some feminist theories about it.
But that doesn't stop me from being really creeped out by Alton Brown - Harry Potter fan fic. Thankfully it's not sexual in nature (yet) or I'd really flip my lid.
