Heroes: Guantanamo

Rhetoric has a concept called Kairos, and it pretty much refers to the most fitting time and place for your message. For example, you don't ask for a raise after a round of layoffs. I kept thinking of this last night during Heroes. Wouldn't it have been a lot more cutting edge to have the emo sapiens rounded up for the safety of the normals, say, last year or maybe two years ago? Right about when real-world Gitmo was in the news more often? How about pushing the story a bit? Let's have a discussion on if there is actually any merit to keeping dangerous people detained. Instead, they capture all the Good Guys for the first round of imprisonings, which naturally makes the audience upset and therefore against the bad guys.
You know what else would be good? If the plot didn't hinge on the incredible stupidity of a character. Here's my impersonation of Peter Petrelli last night: "What, my mom and brother are kidnapping my friends? I better go over and talk to them! Yes, they are sure to be completely honest with me. Dur dee dur."
Also some consistency with regards to the origin of their powers would be nice. The powers come from - or are taken away - by magic eclipses that last for several hours. Only they also need a "catalyst", which appears to be like pixie dust. Except for Matt's new-found drawing the future power, which was handed down to him from the magical African. OK.
I also need to vent about last season's Big Bad, Papa Petrelli. He always came across as a New York mobster, but whatever. Here's a guy with amazing powers, and his downfall is a bullet controlled by Sylar, another guy with all sorts of amazing powers. They just can't
give us a big show down. Not enough money for special effects?
Looking around LJ, it seems I'm the only one who wanted more from the show.
