I watched the first part of "The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance" tonight. The first two parts were aired on our PBS station last night so we taped them.
Overall, I really liked it. The costumes for the men looked very accurate. Women were in the background in this one, the only thing I noticed on them were Princess Leia bun hairdos. It was very interesting, they talked a lot about Brunelleschi, and how incredibly innovative he was both in art and in architecture.
The bad thing was the narrator; I think he was a British fellow who was trying for an Italian accent. It was annoying, but I was able to ignore it after a while.
This series, combined with the upcoming exhibit "Masters of Florence" in Memphis, TN, makes it a good year for us aficionados of the Italian Renaissance. I think there's gotta be a road-trip to see that one. The home of Elvis, great works of art, and BBQ - how can you deny the snazzy of that?
