flummoxicated: (Padme hates Anakin)

The other night I dreamed that Padme didn't die of grief; instead, she decided to live. Eventually she and Obi Wan fell in love, and every so often they talked about how absolutely insane Anakin went, and what a shame it was that he turned out to be such an a$$hole.

On a slightly related note: if 18-20 years elapsed between Episodes 3 and 4, how come Obi Wan aged so much? Could it be that their society has faster-than-light-speed spaceships but no sunscreen?

That would have made for a much better movie. Less melodrama. And the kidlets would have had a great stepfather. Win-win all around.

I really hate that Lucas did that - to the point where it's rattling around in my subconscious, apparently. I realize that she was pretty much destined to not survive based on the original trilogy, but to have her die of grief? Pah-lease!

I was particularly horrified that Amidala would give birth (in a physically impossible contraption, by the way...) and then give up. You have CHILDREN. You have a RESPONSIBILITY. ARG.

Hated that movie. Well, all three of them, actually. The attraction between Amidala and Anakin was so unbelieveably stilted; would she really have fallen in love with someone she knew as a child? When she herself was a Senator?

She should have started OFF with Obi Wan. The end.

ARG ARG ARG.

I also hated all three of the movies, they were visually stunning but that only gets you so far. And I was squicked out by the Amidala - Anakin relationship; in the first movie, whenever the two characters interacted...no, just no. Plus there was zero chemistry between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen.

I know that Portman can act; I don't know whether Christensen can. I will say that I'm not sure whether it was due to Lucas's directing or just his own (lack of) skills, but Christensen convincingly portrayed a block of wood in the later two movies.

In my idealized version of the prequels, Luke and Leia are the sekrit love children of Obi Wan and Amidala, and she just let Anakin think that babies were made by osmosis or something.

Osmosis should be possible, if Anakin was a virgin birth! I like your idealized version.

Natalie Portman isn't a bad actress, but Star Wars definitely isn't her best work.

I've never seen Hayden Christensen convincingly portray anything more than a block of wood, so... yeah.

Partly Lucas's fault, partly the fact that NP was very young and not quite a good actress yet, and partly that HC is pretty awful still.

Amen to that. I was basing my assessment on her other work (well, okay, on V for Vendetta because it's the only other thing I've seen her in).

I think Portman and Christensen weren't old enough and comfortable enough as actors to deal with a Lucas-type director. The other actors managed to at least emote. ;)

Padme + Obi Wan is just so much hotter, I think.

When the general plot for the prequels was revealed, I thought for sure that his fall was going to be precipitated by a jealous love triangle between Anakin, Obi Wan, and Padme - the inclusion of Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan only made me more hopeful - what a letdown!
