On the one hand, I have become quite tolerant of fan fic. I've never written any, but I can see why it holds charms for some. Besides, yay for people writing! I think it was put into perspective when I read an argument that said that what Shakpespeare did (taking existing stock stories and making his own plays) could be considered a form of fan fic. In fact, I'm thinking about studying fan fic if I go on to get a comp/rhet PhD. I'm intrigued by the notion of slash, and I have some feminist theories about it.
But that doesn't stop me from being really creeped out by Alton Brown - Harry Potter fan fic. Thankfully it's not sexual in nature (yet) or I'd really flip my lid.
