It's been snowing all day! The perfect day to make a pot of chili. I make mine with curry. Yum. I'll start the cornbread shortly. Come over for dinner!

I may have lost my mojo for selecting colors for quilts. That, or the fabric isn't suitable for the pattern I'm wanting to use, something called a double rail fence for all you quilters out there. I spent an hour at the JoAnns trying to find the perfect fabric. Think I'll just pick out another pattern.

ETA: Seems that the light in the oven only comes on when you open the oven door. That's poor design, that is.

Hah, great minds!

We made chili and cornbread last night. I put a little bit of rosemary in my cornbread, which makes it extra yummy. Mine's baked in my ancient cast-iron frying pan, which makes a nice crispy crust on the bottom.

I'm not sure why I haven't made mine in the cast-iron skillet - or with rosemary...your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter!

Well, I have a rosemary bush, so it lends itself easily to this sort of thing. Thyme also works, but rosemary has a sharp, bitey sort of aromatic piney taste and I think it stands up better to chili.

My cast-iron skillet is about 50 or 60 well-seasoned years old, and it's wonderful to use. I got it as a hand-me-down from my late stepfather, when he decided to switch all his pots and pans to Le Creuset. He gave me his ancient Calphalon at the same time.

Have you ever tried some of the online quilt fabric shops? I rarely find stuff I like at JoAnns, but the Fat Quarter shop or Purl have some excellent selections and - especially Fat Quarter shop - have some very nice sales.

I have ordered from the Fat Quarter Shop. I'll have to check out Purl. I think the main problem was that I was trying to get a busy fabric to work in a pattern that wasn't a good fit.
